A CHRO’s Point of View: Capability Development 4.0

My appointment as CHRO took effect on 1st June 2018. Looking back at the last 9 years in SUTD, my journey has been an exciting and rewarding one. In the formative years of the university, we were mostly busy with building up the core skills needed for the university to kick-start its operations. This included travelling globally to recruit top faculty talents in the various areas of disciplines and fielding the university with core administrative talents needed to drive the engine of the organisation. Thereafter, we started to build the culture and values necessary to bind the hearts and minds of our people to align with the vision and mission of the university. Fast forward to 2018, we have achieved major milestones as a university community where we have seen our students graduate and obtaining top jobs with good remuneration. What was really rewarding was seeing how SUTD has made an impact in the world through our achievement as the top emerging engineering university in the MIT state of engineering report. At the same time, we were also ranked top 5th in the world for telecommunications, ahead of Princeton and Carnegie Mellon. All these were achieved through focused efforts in building our core capabilities and harnessing them to create maximum impact.
