Our Little Red Dot Is Turning 51

This time last year, we celebrated our 50th Anniversary. A nation was born in 1965. It was born out of a sheer need of necessity. The necessity to survive, to provide hope for a nation of immigrants, and to build a home that truly belonged to us, Singaporeans.

Today, 51 years later, that hope and dream still burns deeply within each and everyone of us, but this time we stand proud. We stand proud of the fact that we have made phenomenal progress as a nation, and this little red dot today has a powerful standing in the world stage.

We have achieved economic success, provided security for our families, built a world class education system, developed excellent infrastructure and facilities for its citizens and immigrants, and beautiful parks and gardens for the enjoyment of all. Singapore has also positioned itself well as a financial hub within Asia, and we lead the world in terms of our sea port and airport. Looking forward to the next 50 years, Singapore can be a model for small country survival, leading the way in inter-racial harmony, rule of law as well as proving that a clean and competent government works for the good of its people. We have also shown that diversity is an advantage to be capitalised on and not to be feared. Every effort, big and small by everyone has brought Singapore to where it is now.
